Since the her percussion ensemble sextet The Creation won the 2004 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest, Cayenna has received international recognition as a composer of percussion music. The Creation, in addition to her other works for percussion have been performed by numerous percussionists and percussion ensembles internationally including the Utari Duo, Caixa Trio, Pedro Carniero, Gilmar Goulart and percussion ensembles at Ithaca College, the Boston Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, Juilliard, University of Kentucky and the Eastman Conservatory.

Her most recent composition, Contagion (2017) was commissioned and premiered by the Caixa Trio, University of Tennessee Martin, Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Texas in El Paso, and is scored for three solo percussionists and backing percussion quartet. The work explores the 'contagion' of ideas -- ideas that spread fear and division and those that emanate compassion and solidarity. It celebrates the cross-pollination of global music influences within percussion in the US through its instrumentation and the role of those instruments within the musical dialogue.
